St. Patrick’s Day is really fast approaching and what better way to celebrate the day with your pet than to dye his fur green? Well, why not?

If you do not think green is your pooch’s color, you can opt to choose any of Kool-Aid’s wide selection of flavors and colors. Kool-Aid is safe and effective to use on your dog’s fur. You may opt to use a dog conditioner with the Kool-Aid solution or just use water.

Before embarking on a canine makeover, do keep in mind that the dye fades after a while. It will noticeably fade after giving your pooch a doggy bath. Green fades badly and could leave green streaks. Purple fades kind of nicely. Red, of course, fades into pink. Dark blue fades into a lighter shade of blue.

How to make Kool-Aid dye:

Prepare the following items:

  • Three packets of Kool-Aid (more for bigger dogs, or if your dog has thick fur).
  • A pair of gloves
  • A container and spoon (for mixing)
  • Doggy conditioner (optional)
  1. Empty the packets of Kool-Aid into the container.
  2. Use a small amount of conditioner into the container and mix it with the Kool-Aid using the spoon. You can add it later on. Mix until Kool-Aid is completely dissolved.
  3. Put your gloves on.
  4. Make sure your pet is clean before applying Kool-Aid. If he just took a bath, make sure he is already dry.
  5. Start picking up the mixture with your gloved fingers and just rub it in. TIP: You can dye just the ears, or just the paws, or just the tail for a more interesting look.
  6. Let it sit there for 10 minutes before bathing your dog.

The doggie dye can last for about a month.
