It’s heartbreaking to be greeted by the sight of any dog on the verge of death. Whether they’re surrounded by garbage or in a pond of dirty sewer water, without even an ounce of strength to move to a different location. Or if they’re simply laying on the side of the road after being hit by a car hard on the head and waiting for the inevitable to come.

At the very least, however, they can be removed and carried off to safety without increasing the level of pain. Or if the act does cause the pain to worsen, it would still be simpler to make the necessary adjustments to give the dog as comfortable an experience as the staff members’ efforts could allow. What would be daunting is the sight of a dog impaled on a metal rod, tail still wagging.

dog, puppy, asleep

That’s exactly how this team from Animal Aid Unlimited, India found this poor dog. The details of the circumstance that led to her being impaled on the metal rod are not known. Perhaps she was playing with other dogs and in her excitement, lost balance and fell to the protruding rod. Maybe she was being chased by bullies who had nothing better to do with their time and wanted to take their frustrations out on someone.

When one of the staff members lifted her up the rod so she could be completely removed, she cried helplessly, the friction causing the pain she was already in to intensify. They knew they there was no time to be hesitant though. Because one wrong move could literally kill her, or at least make her injury even worse.

Medicine was administered as soon as they got to the shelter, after which the wound was wrapped around in bandages. They gave her plenty of time to rest to prepare her for a more thorough examination and when she was ready, they sedated her and took a closer look at how much damage was done. Thankfully, the rod had missed her organs which means she would only need to focus on getting better.

They chose to name her Queen. Today, she is as friendly and as charming as any of their rescue dogs. Will it be a struggle to find her a forever home?
